And that was the end of that...

I'm out. I entered this challenge to learn some stuff and have fun and I did both of those things (and I took some photos I'm really proud of), but it's becoming a chore now and I don't want that. I still have a few unused ideas I had written down for this challenge, which I'm probably gonna do sooner or later, but I kinda like the idea that I can do them on my own time.

To all remaining participants: Good luck and have fun completing those 30 days! I will still be looking at all of your portraits daily and will probably throw in a few comments regularly.

Day 9: The Smile

I noticed I didn't smile on any of my photos so far, so here it is (just don't get used to it :P )

Sorry... I wasn't feeling really creative today :)

Day 8: Caffeine Junkie

There is no better way to wake up than with a fresh cup of coffee in the morning.

I received my macro extension tubes in the mail yesterday. I actually planned to do a macro shot of me drinking a cup of coffee, but that didn't turn out the way I hoped. I guess I need a little bit more practice with that, so I went with a different approach.

Day 7: Kitchen King

Is there anything more relaxing than cooking on a Friday evening after a long, stressful week?

I like using Photoshop, unfortunately I'm not very skilled in it. Today was the first time I tried to do some cross processing, which I'm definitely gonna experiment with more often. Some areas in the picture became a little dark, so in case you're wondering what I'm cutting: it's a zucchini.

Day 6: My Turn

I think I did this one in a record time. Setting it up, executing and post processing within half an hour. Hopefully I have some more time to have a good look at and comment on all of your great photos tomorrow, 'cause today is pretty swamped.

Day 5: Modern Man

Thanks for all the nice comments yesterday. I thought of some ideas this morning to improve the shot, which I never would have thought of last night, but oh well... new day, new glory ;)

I'm not really a gadget guy, but I had the idea for this photo for a while. Most of the stuff in this photo is borrowed. I guess this is more of a satire of people who feel the need to be reachable all the time and have the need to own all the latest stuff.

I kinda look clumsy holding all that stuff, and it actually was. I almost dropped:
- The PDA
- One of the mobile phones

I did drop:
- The other mobile phone
- The bluetooth headset
- The laptop
- The PDA pencil (four times)

Day 4: Late-night reader

I usually don't submit photos until I'm happy with them (that's probably also why I haven't got more entries here at Worth :D ). So, I'm sorry, this didn't turn out the way I hoped and I'm not entirely satisfied with this, but it's been a long day and I really need some sleep. I guess with 30 days of shooting they can't all be masterpieces. Oh well, another chance tomorrow :) (but I would like to cross single light source of my list).

Day 3: Tony Is A Punk Rocker

If you're wondering about the title, it comes from Sheena Is A Punk Rocker. I tried to go for a bit of a Ramones look today. I don't think I quite nailed it because of the hair-do, but 30 days just isn't enough time to grow my hair to a decent Ramones length ;)

I don't know if it is enough of an impersonation to mark that of my themes list, but it does qualify for Full Body, Looking Away and Seated Outdoors.

Or does the sun count as a Single Light Source? :P

Day 2: Bass Bloke

Things I experimented with today:
- Bouncing and diffusing flashes for portrait photography. Who needs fancy equipment; you'll come a long way with a ceiling and tissue paper :P

Day 1: The Shave

I figured that if I'm gonna take 30 photographs of myself, I might as well start clean shaven so I don't look like a total bum.

Things I learned today:
- Camera's are pretty good at automatically focusing in mirrors, even if the mirrors distort the image (although I'm not convince my image is pin sharp)
- Never moisturize your face less than usual before shaving, just to get a nice picture. Irritated skin isn't worth your first self portrait.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog for the Official W1k 30-Day Self Portrait Challenge 2007™.

If you're here, you probably know the purpose of this blog. I see this challenge as a perfect opportunity to improve my technical and my creative skills (and certainly no over obsession with myself... in fact I can think of many more appealing subjects to photograph :P). I'm probably gonna try lots of new stuff during these thirty days, so I thought it might be interesting to note each day what I experimented with and what I learned that day.

So, feel free to comment and give suggestions and to everybody else participating in this challenge: have fun!
